What is stalking?

Stalking is a pattern of unwanted harassment or threatening behavior shown by one person toward another.  Both women and men can be stalked. A significant portion of women who experience stalking report that the perpetrator was someone they were formerly or currently romantic with. Listed below are some behaviors exhibited by stalkers.

  • Following you or showing up to places you're visiting
  • Sending unwanted gifts, cards, emails, letters
  • Damaging your personal property
  • Monitoring your phone or online accounts
  • Frequently visiting your place of residence, school, or work
  • Threatening to hurt you or others you know
  • Publicly spreading rumors or information about you
  • Any other behavior that is employed to control or track you
